Oh yess.... The first Pokemon of the Week at Pokemon Suckers is..... CLOYSTER!
Description: Cloyster is extremely awesome due to its super high defense stat. It has a base 180 defense. The attack and special attack stats are also moderately high: 95 attack, 85 special attack.
Nature: Jolly Nature
Ev's: 252 attack, 48 special attack, 208 speed
Moveset: Shell Smash, Icicle Spear, Rock Blast, Surf/Ice Shard.
Held Item: King's Rock
Preferred Ability: Skill Link
Explanation: Skill Link is an ability that basically makes every move that can hit two to five times hit five times- all the time. So that mean the move Icicle Spear will have a CRAZY 187 BASE ATTACK POWER (due to STAB). Plus the move Rock Blast will also get a strong 125 base attack power. The move Shell Smash is just epic because of Cloyster's super powerful defense. It can use Shell Smash to raise it's offensive stats up sharply. Surf is a pretty nice move that also can be used for HM uses, and Ice Shard has a base 80 attack power, and a priority move. The reason why I would hold a King's Rock is that every time you use Icicle Spear and Rock Blast, you would have an increased chance for flinching. You would have an huge 47% flinch rate.
(Note: this is the most used set for Cloyster, but it is still great.)

ReplyDeleteI think you should change the item of King's Rock to Focus Sash, since the Flinch of Kings Rock, will not matter, since Cloyster will Annihilate everything in sight wth it s powerful moves. Focus sash on the other hand, allows Cloyster to get a shell smash in, as long as there is no Priority, Weather such as Sandstorm, or Entry Hazards. You also have the choice of using the White Herb, since it allows Cloyster to retain its AWESOME Defense.
ReplyDeleteI also think you should put Ice Shard Over Surf, since Ice Shard allows Cloyster to defeat a pokemon such as Breloom using Mach Punch, since the Mach Punch is coming of Base 130 Attack, and Cloysters def will be reduced from Shell Smash, unless you had White Herb as your item.

btw cloyster is rated as the 4th highest defense of any pokemon before it is regirock in 3rd steelix in 2nd and surprisingly shuckle in 1st with 230 base defense and 230 sp. defense

ReplyDelete@Joshua: Okay, but I don't fully agree with the Focus Sash. I use entry hazards, andsometimes even weather hazards. I have two priority moves. A focus sash wouldn't be as useful as the white herb in this case. BUT if you konw that your opponents team will not be using any of those things, you could hold a focus sash. Then it would be super useful. But I still like the white herb better, since you will not lose Cloyster's mega high defense.
